Thailand ranked ninth-biggest mobile-advertising market

Thailand now ranks as the ninth largest market in the world for mobile advertising with 2.02 billion banners served to 12.4 million users in the past quarter, according a new industry study detailed in local media reports.
Thailand has experienced 30 percent growth from the first quarter, when 1.55 billion banner ads were served. The report said the growth came as more advertisers take advantage of an expanding audience on mobile.
No wonder there’s a growth spurt for mobile advertising. Smartphone penetration in Thailand is now at 75 percent and on the upswing (Nokia and Samsung brand phones remain the most-used devices among Thais, taking 37 percent each; 44 percent of handsets in Thailand use the Android operating system).
The Bangkok Post indicates that 35 percent of content being consumed is general, 23 percent is about glamor and dating, 21 percent is about entertainment and lifestyle, 9 percent is from portals, and 6 percent each is divided among news, information, and community.
Thailand has a well-developed media sector, especially by Southeast Asian standards. Compared to other countries in the region, the Thai media have historically been relatively free although the government and legislature have always exercised considerable control, especially over broadcast media.
