Premium compact cars could be the future of Indian auto market

Premium compact cars could be the future of Indian auto market where, compacts are being preferred a lot today. Since compact cars fall in between the classes of sedans and hatches, they bring with them the comfort and economy of both. One can easily notice why Indians are going behind compacts, as models in this segment have become a good bargain. Past decade has seen foreign investors vowing to shape-up premium compact market.
The premium compacts may reign the industry. The observation comes from the fact that people are getting inclined a lot towards the same. The benefit that Indians are picking from the segment is that price comes lowered so aptly that one's needs from a sedan and love of having first affordable hatch, all get compromised here. The Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has come up with a startling fact, that current sold units, 30,000 will rise to One lakh quite sooner in the coming time and it may be that the very segment shall overpower other segments of pure hatch and compact. So, all those preferring to buy premium compact may in future find themselves going with the trend.
Let see what has been introduced and what is awaited.
Mercedes-Benz A class
German auto giant seemed enthusiastic with the showcasing of A-class that turned out very well, though it was made available to a select group. Nonetheless the launch will take place on May 30th 2013. The company has put online the first official pictures of A-class on its Facebook page. A-class at first will be brought as CBU (completely built unit), which may come as a jolt to some but hey, that's just initial effort. The car will be manufactured as a CKD (completely knocked down) unit, later on. The firm that launched B-class at Rs. 22 Lakh, introductory to be noted, is now planning to tag A-class lesser than you think. Yes the car maker is in rush to make it the most affordable Merc in India. The car has been brought up on MFA platform. A-class would probably come with two engine choices; 1.8 liter turbocharged diesel and 1.6 liter petrol run engine. Both the mentioned engines are to be mated with a seven speed dual clutch auto gearbox, as standard.
Mercedes-Benz B-class Diesel
The wagon was released back then in September 2012 and A-class awaits its launch of the diesel version

in June 2013. the GL class SUV model will be first of the firm's three fresh models to hit Indian lands. The GL class will roll by May 16, this year. The B-class petrol version houses 1595cc four cylinder turbocharged direct-injection engine mated to 7 speed dual clutch box. The diesel version will be backed by 1.8 liter diesel powertrain.
BMW One series
The luxury sports tourer maker, recently launched 2013 7-series sedan in India. The maker has also started the to make MINI locally. So the next thing is BMW 1 series. It too will be manufactured locally. The top heads of the company has confirmed the same. BMW 1 series will be placed in the same premium hatch segment as the MINI country man. The car is meant to give competition to Mercedes-Benz's new giving luxury hatch, A-class. The price of the very wagon hasn't been opened by the company but it is expected that it will be priced between Rs 20 and 25 Lakh.
Audi A3 and A1
Audi A1 price range is expected to fall in the range of Rs. 11 to Rs. 14 Lakh. So Audi, has thought serious of venturing into small car segment. After much rumoring around, the car maker officially put up its pictures over the net. Back in October 2007, it was showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show but that too as a metro project quattro concept. A1 is based on Volkswagen Polo yet it will come out shorter than Audi A3. The car though will have more length, width and height than the Cooper. Audi A1's size could be matched to that of BMW 1 series. The car has three doors and five doors hatch is also in hearsay to be in near future. So having Audi A1 in the arena would sure be view with its stated competitors. Audi is also planning to launch the Audi A3 in India by 2013-end.
